Jacqueline Barber
Senior Vice President, Payments Product Manager
M&T Bank
Biography
Jacquie is a Senior Vice President with M&T Bank’s Commercial Payments and Liquidity Division. She is a Senior Product Manager, responsible for the banks Wire Transfer, SWIFT and Consolidated Payables Product offerings. Her career has been extremely diverse, starting as a Licensed Banker with Citizens Bank, moving to an Assistant Branch Manager role at a large M&T branch managing several employees and then moving onto a position in M&T Product Management, where over a very short period of time, she rose from a junior product role to a senior level product manager, with sole ownership of all aspects of M&T’s Wire Transfer and Swift capabilities via all delivery channels such as online banking, in person (phone and branch wires) and file tranmissions, along with anciillary services. Jacquie is one of the product teams consistent top performers. Her role includes design, development, marketing, legal and regulatory compliance, profitability and new development for the product sets. She collaborates and has built incredible partnerships with internal teams across M&T (Operations, Service & Implementation, Risk, Sales and Technology), large and small bank customers to plan, design and develop these critical banking functions. Jacquie has been responsible for developing seamless client experiences for all wire flows, and has cultivated relationships with top tier global banking partners for correspondent activity. She has also been ensuring momentum over the banks efforts to comply and deploy ISO 20022 changes.
How is the nominee propelling the industry forward?
Jacquie has an impressive footprint in the payments industry. She is not only active, she is vocal. Jacquie represents M&T bank on the important CHIPS Business Committee from a Commercial Bank perspective, along side her Enterprise Wire team (M&T is an owner bank of The Clearing House). As a large sender of wire transfers, M&T also works very closely with The Federal Reserve Bank, and Jacquie is part of the senior team that leads discussions with our FED colleagues on relationship and industry matters. She is one of our point people regarding ISO 20022 readiness, which is critical to overall industry success as 'live' dates draw closer. Jacquie has lead efforts internally at M&T from the Product Management side to ensure we are ISO ready and both internal and external clients understand potential impacts, challenges and opportunities it creates. Jacquie also has developed and cultivated relationships with major FIs who we partner with as our core correspondent banks which has created efficiency specifically for corridors that the bank is not involved from an FX perspective. In addition to this, she is extremely involved with her technology team in regards to our critical bank FinTech providers on aspects of the technology that works well and others that require improvement to better improve our overall experience and offerings.
Where do you see the nominee succeeding in the future?
Jacquie has the charisma, knowledge and drive that is required for success in the Product Manager role, especially for a bank like M&T which is large, but operates in a more nimble manner than other larger banks. She will continue to grow in her career, her knowledge and network. In the short term, I have no doubt that Jacquie will deliver success this year on the ISO 20022 conversions that are upcoming, while also continuing to improve existing wire functions by continuing to drive our roadmap forward, based on focus groups and other client feedback she has obtained. Jacquie has also begun looking into low value payments rails that deliver instant payments to 'real time' payment schemes in various countries. She, along with other team members, are now participating in discussions with multiple potential suppliers in the space to see how M&T can improve its global payment options beyond wire transfer/Swift. I have no doubt, she will be a future leader within M&T and someone who will continue to be very active and known in payments through her already extensive network with FRB, TCH, Correspondents and Fintechs.
