The Future of Payments in the Metaverse

For something that technically doesn’t “exist,” the metaverse is everywhere. Facebook’s name change to Meta is just one indication that the technology industry sees huge potential for the metaverse. Where technology goes, financial services follow. A few large financial institutions have already developed metaverse strategies to capitalize on future demand for virtual digital banking experiences, as In Real Life (IRL), payments must be a feature of metaverse banking. With interactions in the metaverse being real-time and 24x7 by definition, those payments must be faster payments, whether transacting real or virtual currencies. This panel will explore the future of payments in the metaverse, the role of regulated banks and financial institutions in this future, and the technology required to deliver safe, secure, and immediate payments experiences to metaverse participants.
