The George Mitchell Payments
System Excellence Award

 

Named after former vice-chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve George Mitchell, an early proponent of electronic payments, the award honors an individual or organization that has shown superior leadership in the development, implementation or advancement of domestic or international electronic payments. Recipients were recognized for their achievements at PAYMENTS during the Payments System Awards Luncheon held in their honor. Any individual or organization that demonstrated superior leadership in the development, implementation, or advancement of domestic or international electronic payments was eligible for this award.

Established in 1997, the award recognized 26 innovative efforts from various organizations and leaders over the course of its existence. With the changing payments landscape, the NACHA Payments Awards have continued to evolve and the Award was retired in 2016, replaced by the NACHA Excellence in Payments Award.
